A Baby Unshower

What do you do when your girlfriend is expecting her 3rd child and exclaims that she does not want another shower? It’s sometimes awkward but many friends and family still want to show their affection and support for the new baby despite the exclamation. A great idea is to host a baby “unshower.”

Here are some ideas for an “unshower”:

  • Steer clear from games and baby gear. Most likely the mom-to-be will have the big things she needs.
  • Your time is the best gift, so offer to cook meals, fold laundry or entertain the older siblings for an hour or so after baby arrives.
  • Have the guests contribute to a collective gift card to her favorite store. This way, she’ll be able to buy what she actually needs for the little one and herself and won't have to open a ton of gifts.
  • Keep decorations to a minimum and opt for a casual get-together feel rather than a traditional baby shower.
  • Give her a pregnancy journal so she can write down special moments that she may otherwise forget. I know it sounds cliché, but when you have other kids to love it’s easy to forget to treasure the moment.
  • Use casual online invitations instead of paper.

It’s hard to resist celebrating the anticipated arrival of a new child. Many women truly do not want friends to go all out for baby showers after the 1st child, so respect these boundaries and plan an unofficial event that will get her smiling. After all, who could resist an opportunity to hang with the girls?

Enjoy Planning.
